Favorite Childhood Toys Party

Scrappy Jessi is hosting this party over on her blog. I love blog parties, so even though I arrived late to this one, I am happy to play along!

This little sweetheart belonged to my mother when she was a little girl. That would make him about 70 years old. You can see that she literally loved him to pieces! Since I collect and make teddy bears, she gave him to me one Christmas years ago.

A true bear story...

All my other bears were excited to have a celebrity in their den. Though he never would, I'd told them of his heroic experience in the cotton fields of New Mexico years ago when he was just a cub. As usual, he had gone there with my mother and her parents. While they picked cotton, Bear and my mom would entertain each other on the bails and in the fields. One fateful day, unbeknownst to any one but Bear, he was left behind in the fields. That is, until the little girl needed him to comfort her at bedtime! Bear was prepared to spend a lonely night in the dark cold fields, but he was brave and confident he would be found in the morning. The little girl was not so brave. She needed Bear there with her. Lucky for her, her father was tenderhearted and set out to search for Bear with only the light of his lantern to guide him. Oh how Bear wished he had a proper mouth so he could call out to the father! But before long he was found not far from the path and returned safely to the loving arms of his little girl.

Gaudy Retro Goodness!

My friend Donna showed me her copy of this book and I just had to get myself a copy. I'll admit to being hesitant at first. I certainly didn't need another book! Especially not another craft book! But after a couple of weeks of should I shouldn't I, I finally gave in and bought it yesterday. In my defense, I did use my JoAnn's 40% off coupon. I spent the whole evening reading and thoroughly enjoying! It was nine bucks well spent. Cheaper than popcorn & a movie.

It's obvious the author, Suzie Millions, loves retro crafts and her enthusiasm is catching!
She defines retro crafts as "of a different era, handmade, heartfelt." You probably have some or even made some at one time. Do any of these sound familiar? Beer can hats, birdhouses, cigar band collage, coconut art, decoupage, folded wrappers, hooked rugs, junk sculpture, lanyards, shell art, sock monkeys, etc., etc.?

Jen's Circle Journal Page

My weekend is off to a great start. My friend Donna is here with me scrappin'. I finished this layout for me and one just like it for Jen (imxfer) from TallyScrapper. In a little while we are going to dinner and a live show with free tickets our friend Linda gave us. Tomorrow I hope to get more scrappin' in and my gear ready for a scrap retreat next weekend!

Happy weekend!

(The title and journaling are a little hard to read. This is what it says: WHO I AM *young at heart *always ready for an adventure *world traveler *a work in progress *created in His image *loyal friend *bookworm *artsy)

Bah humbug!

This simply should not be!

Not in the middle of April!

Not where I live!

Come on, Spring, let's get with it and give the poor Baby Tears a break!

Happy Birthday, dear Blog!

My blog is two years old today. I never imagined how much I would come to love my little corner of cyberspace when I clicked on Publish Post for the first time, but I'm so glad I did!

My first ATC made to trade!

Until yesterday I had only made these for Emily's Deck of Me project last year. In fact, I am still working toward finishing those, but I finally jumped on the trading wagon when Christi expressed an interest in trading these when she finishes her "Alphabet Series". I just love her stuff! ATCs are a great way to give and collect little bits of art from your favorite peeps or make new ones.
